Closson Chase Vineyards

A County Pioneer with a Purple Barn and a Vision

In the rolling limestone hills of Prince Edward County, a striking purple barn marks the home of Closson Chase Vineyards—one of the region’s earliest pioneers and a landmark in Canadian wine. Long before the County was recognized as a world-class destination for cool-climate wines, Closson Chase believed the land had something extraordinary to offer.

Since 1998, that vision has guided the winery’s path, with winemaker Keith Tyers at the helm today. His approach blends tradition with sustainability, focusing on wines that express the County’s unique climate rather than smoothing over its differences. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris remain the backbone of Closson Chase, thriving in limestone soils, short summers, and cool autumn nights. Each vintage is treated as a snapshot of the County—a story told through the lens of a growing season.

That commitment extends beyond the vines. Closson Chase was an early adopter of green practices, prioritizing soil health, limiting chemical use, and stewarding the land well before sustainability became an industry buzzword. This ethos of care—both for the land and for people—has always defined Closson Chase.

Visiting the winery is as much about hospitality as it is about wine. Tastings unfold in an atmosphere that is warm, unhurried, and authentic, inviting guests to slow down and connect to the story in the glass. The purple barn itself, blending heritage charm with innovative spirit, has become an icon of Prince Edward County—anchoring a community of growers, makers, and dreamers who have followed Closson Chase’s lead.

After years of guests asking if they could celebrate their milestones in this special place, Closson Chase Vineyards has opened its doors to couples who want to gather, toast, and create lasting memories surrounded by vines and history with the launch of their wedding program this past year. “It feels like a natural extension of what Closson Chase has always been: a place to celebrate the land, the wine, and the people who bring them together” says, Closson’s Marketing Coordinator, Faye Lidell.

From its pioneering roots to its present-day leadership, Closson Chase Vineyards continues to shape Prince Edward County’s wine story—crafting precise, vibrant wines that embody the region’s spirit while offering a sense of place that lingers long after the last glass is poured.
